Floating Your Way to Relaxation and Wellness
DRIP Luxury Float Spa, in East Providence, Rhode Island, co-owned by David and Yessenia Brayton, focuses on holistic well-being through floatation therapy while offering complementary services to enhance the overall experience. This combination provides customers with options for relaxation, respiratory health and mental well-being. The spa has six float rooms; three of them are designed for double occupancy, allowing two people to float together.
The availability of some of the largest, state-of-the-art float rooms on the market allows clients to float in complete darkness or turn on ceiling LED lights that resemble stars. Their healing and healthy living philosophy centers around creating a sanctuary for healing, promoting natural living, and facilitating a personalized journey towards optimal health and well-being. DRIP can provide complete relaxation affording an escape from the pull of gravity and allow all of one’s stress to drip away.
Floatation therapy, described as a “float spa”, implies the use of floatation tanks filled with a high concentration of Epsom salt and water, allowing individuals to float effortlessly, promoting relaxation and sensory deprivation. The Braytons share that they opened DRIP because they wanted to bring this form of relaxation to as many people as possible.
Dissolved in body temperature water is approximately 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt. This creates an extremely dense float solution that enables people of all body types to float effortlessly and escape the pull of gravity. Once the float solution settles after entering their float rooms, the brain is unable to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the solution and those that aren’t. The feeling is as if being suspended in space. As physical awareness subsides, our thoughts are more noticeable. The mind eventually enters a deep meditative state where our thoughts drip away.
Studies have shown that the participants that use float rooms regularly saw a significant reduction in stress, depression, and anxiety over the control group. Floatation therapy has also been proven to reduce pain from conditions such as arthritis, sciatica, fibromyalgia, back pain and overall inflammation. Many studies have also supported the idea that a person may experience a boost in creativity after floating. Further, the experience can decrease blood pressure, heart rate and cortisol levels.
Floating doesn’t require swimming skills. Regardless of one’s shape or size, the dense Epsom salt solution will enable everyone to float. Potential feelings of claustrophobia are reduced via the sheer size of the float rooms and control measures as users can stand up, control the LED ceiling lights that resemble stars or float in complete darkness. Though many notice results after their first float, some will notice improvements after their second or third. This gives the body enough time to adjust to the new environment and experience.
In addition to float therapy, DRIP also offers halotherapy, involving exposure to fine salt particles, usually in a controlled environment, that aims to promote respiratory and skin health; and BrainTap, a technological method designed to relax the mind, involving guided meditation, binaural beats or other techniques.
