Help Save a Growing Eco-Community
Revive the Roots
is working to buy Rhode Island's historic Mary Mowry house and five-acre
property from the Smithfield Land Trust to continue its preservation and
development as a hub for the community.
The volunteer-run nonprofit has
submitted $350,000 in grant requests, launched an online campaign and is
seeking support from donors and local businesses to secure funds and close on
the $415,000 sale by June 30, 2022.
By purchasing the Mary Mowry House and
five-acre property, Revive the Roots would protect the house and lands for
future generations to enjoy. Without this sale, the Smithfield Land Trust may
be forced to sell the land to a private owner or developer, turning a community
shared space over to private ownership and leaving the historic farmhouse
vulnerable to neglect or demolition.
Under Revive the Roots’ care, this land,
which is part of the Woonasquatucket River Shed and the Blackstone River Valley
National Heritage Corridor, will continue to thrive. Mowry Commons is open to
the public sunup to sundown, 365 days a year.
