The PVD Tree Plan Seeks Community Input
April 29, 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of National ArborDay, yet tree planting goes far beyond this one holiday, and one of the most
exciting initiatives being launched in Rhode Island is the PVD Tree Plan.
This is a city-wide effort led by BIPOC
residents living in Providence neighborhoods with few trees. Central to
planning is a community survey to assess the needs, ideas and priorities of the
people most impacted by tree inequity. By interacting with and learning from
the city’s residents, the PVD Tree Plan will form a vision and action plan for
creating a resilient urban forest that equitably distributes the critical
infrastructure of trees to all residents.
